A RARE GEORGE III PEWTER SPIRE FLAGON, DEVON, CIRCA 1780. Having a drum slightly bulging around the widest centre point near a heavy applied fillet, and with a lip and flared base, the double domed lid with knop, and 'drape-and-drop' style handle with hooded ball terminal and diamond-shaped lower escutcheon, pierced heart thumbpiece, Churchwardens initials of 'DH' over 'TP' before 'CW' to rim, label of George Grenfell, Exeter, (fl.1757-1784), (PS4022) to underside of base, height 34cm

Provenance: Formerly at Milton Abbot Church, Devon, until 1992. Thence Jan Gadd Collection.

The initials 'DH' probably refer to a Daniel Hart, Churchwarden at Milton Abbot 1783-86 (source, Bishops' Transcripts).
