A Japanese Taiko war drum, probably 19th century, the brass rivetted, vellum skins with black painted seal and leaf marks, on a plain, black laquered body with three finger rings, 11½in. (29.2cm.) diameter. Some flaking to lacquer and three splits beneath the lacquer to the wood beneath. Mounting hole to centre of body where something has at some time been attached. Some losses to rivet heads. Surface rust to the iron rings.
