£3,000 - £5,000
Former Bristol Zoo Gardens - an original Edwardian c1910s / 1920s enamel advertising sign, possibly an early AA tourist sign, and likely from Temple Meads Train Station advertising 'The Clifton Zoo - Book To Clifton Down Station - Beautiful Grounds & Lake, Magnificent Collection Of Animals, Birds & Reptiles - Bands, Carnivals & Fetes,' with admission noted as one shilling. Yellow ground, with black text. The irregular naming of 'The Clifton Zoo' (versus Bristol Zoo) dates this sign to the early twentieth century, and it was likely prominently displayed at a larger station - probably Temple Meads - in order to best direct visitors to the site. In 2022 this sign featured in 'The Zoo and You, Memory Show and Tell’ exhibition held at Bristol Zoo Gardens celebrating its 185 year history. Measures approx 90cm x 90cm. A unique piece of Bristol Zoo Gardens history.
