HENRY BLUNT (1806-1853) A collection of watercolours and drawings depicting views in North Wales, the North of England, and Scotland, many in wash with pencil, the majority dateable to circa 1830-1845, mostly landscapes, subjects include Dumfries, Barmouth Sands, Rhos y Gwaliau; Loch Lomond; Glencoe; Llandudno; Kelso, Harlech Castle; Goat Fell from Brodrick Bay, Isle of Arran, many inscribed, eighteen signed, varying sizes, 15 x 21 in and smaller, all unframed, all contained in a blue folio box. Henry Blunt moved to Shrewsbury from London in 1809. He spent the rest of his life based in the town where he worked as a chemist. He was also a keen astronomer and watercolour artist.
In 1849 he constructed a model of the moon's surface based on observations made with a reflecting telescope from his home in Shrewsbury. The model was later exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851. His work is represented in the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, the British Museum and Eton College.
