To compete with Volkswagen's Golf GTI, several hot hatch versions of the Escort Mark III were developed, the XR3, the Fuel injected XR3i, and the limited edition (8,659 examples), racetrack-influenced RS 1600i. The final performance update arrived in the form of the turbocharged 132 PS RS Turbo model in October 1984. The RS Turbo went on sale in early 1985, and the Series 1 was only marketed in a few European countries as production was limited to 5,000 examples, all in white. They were well equipped, with the alloy wheels from the limited production RS 1600i, Recaro seats, and a limited slip differential. One car only was finished in black; it was built especially for Lady Diana. The Series 2 RS Turbo continued with the 1986 MK IV model.
We are told that this very desirable Ford Escort Turbo, has had four owners and has been dry stored for several years. It Comes with most history, all MOTs, and invoices including one for a replacement turbo at 89,510 miles, and a timing belt at 84,000 miles. It has fitted a Mongoose stainless steel exhaust, Jamex shocks and springs fitted at 69.000 miles. The condition of this vehicle is hard to describe, as it has never had any restoration work done. The paint and body shell are 100% original, and the dashboard is unmarked. The windscreen rubbers are like new, and the alloy wheels have not been kerbed. The car has a valid MOT till November 2018. It is very hard to find this model which has this level of originality, and it benefits from being well cared for by it's previous owners.
