Includes a handwritten marriage proposal towards the rear opening 'My dear Madam, Being particularly anxious of 'insuring you for life' signed Benj. 'British' and dated January 1823, with page opposing titled 'The Lady's Reply' rejecting the proposal signed Eliza 'Eagle'. Loosely inserted ticket titled 'Cercle des Etrangers de Monaco' for M. Stewart dated 19th December 1881, map to rear endpaper titled 'Cupid's Latest Survey: The Realms of Matrimony' with lands titled 'Land of the Faithful', 'Desert of Bachelor', 'Petticoat Government', 'Land of Promise', 'The Great Ocean of Love', 'Electorate of Bridesmaids', 'Fickle Coast' etc. Also including a number of loosely inserted paintings and sketches, many of which in colour, to include black & white copies of John Tenniel's Alice in Wonderland illustrations in ink, as well as later scraps
