WW1 Trench Art Hoof Ink Well and framed Christmas 1916 greetings from the 254 th Tunnelling Company Royal Engineers. The hoof is most likely from one of the many Mules used to carry sacks of dirt out of the tunnels. A small inscription in Welsh reads “Come Death Come”. ( many Welsh miners were taken into the Tunnelling Companies for their skills. They were known as “Clay Kickers”
