A Bengal and North Western Railway 14" dial teak long case regulator, by Walkers of London, in unusually original condition. Probably early 20th century. Recently returned to this country where its flaking dial writing was "mistaken" as LNWR and repainted as such. Now with original dial details based on the remains of the original writing. The superior quality suggests an important location but typical of many supplied by English firms to the Indian and other overseas railway companies it has modifications to suit tropical conditions e.g. a teak case with dovetailed and other joints secured with brass screws rather than glue. Cast brass bezel with bevelled glass secured by a bezel lock. Good quality regulator movement with maintaining power, held in a substantial cast iron frame, incorporating the backcock, screwed to the backboard. Complete with double hung brass cased 11 lb lead weight, seconds-beating pendulum with wood rod and zinc bob. Winder possibly original - it fits! Height 51". (Postage Band: N/A)
