λ A fine mid 18th century ivory fan, with elaborately carved and pierced ivory guards and sticks, the guards carved with figures, flowers and birds, the sticks with a carved central figure of a shepherdess and sheep amongst foliate scrollwork, the leaf mounted à langlaise fashion and hand-painted with a mythological scene and buildings in the reserves, surrounded by a border painted to resemble lace ribbon, the verso painted with a trompe l'oeil of various scenes, with later suspension loop, length 29.5cm
