Medals (2) of 4943 Private Alfred Smith of the East Surrey Regiment. King's South Africa Medal with 'South Africa 1901' and 'South Africa 1902' clasps, and Queen's South Africa Medal with 'Relief of Ladysmith' and 'Tugela Heights' clasps. Alfred Smith enlisted into the 2nd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment on 26th September 1895 from the 1st Volunteer Battalion, East Kent Regiment. He served in South Africa from 21st October 1899 until 14th July 1900 and from 3rd August 1901 until 6th January 1903. He was discharged on 25th September 1907.
