Vintage Motor Car. 1933 Talbot 75 Saloon, chassis No 33316, 17.9 HP, engine No 633, black and light blue, with tan leather and brown interior, registration number JO 6000, sold with MOT certificate dated 1962, July 1963 tax disc (issued at Derby), photocopy of registration book with stamps from 1947-1965, insurance certificate dated 1959, and photocopies of an earlier owner

Talbot cars from 1926 to the take over by Rootes in 1935 "were models of solid worth, refinement, performance and renown" (Culshaw & Horobin)

Chassis Number: 33316
Engine Number : 633 (to be confirmed)
Body Number : 7494 (to be confirmed)
Body manufactured by Darracq.

Registration Number JO 6000. Not registered with the DVLA but it is understood the number can be restored to the car.

Ordered by Harwell’s Garages Limited, Park End Street, Oxford on 11th January 1932 and despatched from the Talbot Works on 14th January 1932. (invoice 225/20486)

Rolling chassis completed by 8th August 1931, despatched to Darracq, body builders and returned 11th September 1931.

Built on the longer 10’ chassis, the car is largely complete and shows all the features of the model:

Quick lift window winder and adjustable arm rest to the driver’s door.
Tables and foot rests to the rear compartment.
Exterior body fittings chromium plated
Louvres over each door.
Special sprung bumpers front and rear.
Sliding roof.
Windscreen with safety glass.
Sun visor across length of windscreen.
Two interior lights.

The interior, whilst showing some deterioration, is complete with the seats possibly restorable. The dashboard contains most of the important instruments. The body is fair and the chassis appears sound.

18” spoked wheels appear good.
Four speed “silent third“ gearbox is free.
6 cylinder, 2276 cc engine seized, but complete with the exception of some of the valve rocker gear. Spares however are available from the STD Register.
Power 76 bhp at 4500 rpm giving a top speed of 70 mph.
Some spares and parts are with the car.

Whilst the car could be fully restored, it is a suitable candidate as an “oily rag“ specimen. All in all, the car needs preserving, being one of the 3200 18 hp models manufactured.

A genuine 'barn find' removed after a period of over 60 years for the present sale and entirely unrestored; a fascinating and worthwhile project
