A worksplate, CCCP, KHARKIV 5266, 1938. The locomotive works at Kharkov in the Ukraine at this time was given the name Kominterna. The Komintern was the 3rd communist international, later dissolved by Stalin, though the factory has remained a major industrial producer, not least of T-34 tanks in World War II. This plate was almost certainly fitted to the dome of a CO class 2-10-0. Cast iron, 13"x9¾", curved to fit dome, the front repainted. (Postage Band: C)
