India Boer War WW1 Devonshire Regiment Provost Staff Corps RAF Officer Group of Six Medals An remarkable group awarded to Lieutenant James Sims, who served in the Tirah Campaign, Boer War severely wounded at Elandslaagte and would be wounded again 1916 with the Devons, having served with Military Provost Staff Corps, he was finally commissioned into the Royal Air Force in 1918.

India General Service Medal, two clasps Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98. 2944 CORPL J SIMS 1ST BN DEVON REGT, Queen's South Africa Medal (Ghost Dates) clasp Elandslaagte, 2944 SGT J SIMS DEVON REGT, 1914/15 Star 3-7694 QM SGT J SIMS DEVON R, British War Medal, Victory Medal LIEUT J SIMS RAF, Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (EDVIIR) 1265 S SJT J SIMS MPSC. Mounted as originally worn. Medals polished. Lieutenant James Sims was born in St. Helier and enlisted into the Devonshire Regiment in 1890 at 15 years old. Seeing service in India, his IGS with two clasps are confirmed. Posted to South Africa with his regiment he was present at Elandslaagte and was severely wounded. The Devonshire Regiment Role of Honour describes he was shot in the left arm and both legs and while laying wounded was shot again. Recovering from his wounds he was attached to the Military Provost Staff Corps and was awarded the LS&GC Medal in 1908. He was discharged in March 1914 and joined the Corps of Commissioners as a Clark. He rejoined the Devonshire Regiment in September 1914 serving with the 3rd Bn. He landed in France July 1915 and in October 1916 received gunshot wound to the chest resulting to the UK. Attached to the Royal Flying Corps, he was commissioned into the RAF in April 1918 as an Admin. Officer.
