A VICTORIAN LADY'S COROMANDEL LAP DESK, maker/retailer D. Cattaneo & Co., Leeds, of slender wedge form, the cover applied with a cast and polished metal strapwork panel enclosing lock, hinged and opening to reveal a dark purple velvet skiver with gilt impessed line and Greek key cut velvet borders, the inner half hinged and revealing a mahogany interior with inset maker's label, the top with two glass inkwells, three apertures with gilt metal pierced appliques and a pen well, with Betjemann & Son lock with key, 13 3/4" x 10", 4" high (Est. plus 21% premium inc. VAT)

Lock inoperable though key fits, a couple of old scratches near top applique, a little splitting to fall front, otherwise just rather faded, interior is excellent bar rubbing to velvet across the "split"
