A fine and large 19th century figured walnut and brass-strung/inlaid double-size writing slope; the top hinged section with central rectangular brass plaque engraved 'To B-A-C from M-C' within decorative scrolls and opening to reveal interior gilt-tooled leather writing surface, the lid with interior cleated board enclosing compartment space and with further plaque reading 'From J+K to A+K+C on his 21 birthday March 28-87', the main body panel lifting to reveal further compartment space and a spring-loaded full-width bar opening to reveal three 'secret' drawers, two inkwells with silver-plated lids, angular stamp compartment, removable concave quill/pen compartment and one further lidded compartment with circular engraved mother of pearl handle, some brass stringing away (55cm wide x 26.5cm deep x 17.5cm high). It is rare to find a presentation writing slope of this size and it is possible that it was specially commissioned.
