Whilst taking cover, the look out reported the Infantry S.O.S rocket and without a moment's hesitation Lance called out "Come on boys, they're looking to us for help" and sending a few gunners with him to one gun, he, another Subaltern, a Sergeant and a Corporal made an impromptu crew and manned another. A high explosive shell killed both officers and wounded the Sergeant mortally and the Corporal was also severely wounded...", he was 36. see "The Rugby Roll of Honour" for further details and image of our gallant hero. £300-400
