Robert Mapplethorpe (American, 1946-1989)
"America" triptych, the complete set of three lithographs printed in colours on wove paper, signed in ink by Michael Ward Stout, Executor of the Mapplethorpe Estate, and inscribed in pencil A.P. 9/10 (on the verso), each image measures 66.9 x 55.4 cm.
Executed in 1988; this set is one of ten artist's proof sets aside from the numbered edition of 40.
Note: Robert Michael Mapplethorpe was an American photographer, best known for his black-and-white photographs. His work featured an array of subjects, including celebrity portraits, male and female nudes, self-portraits, and still-life images.
