The XJS was launched in 1975, and whilst the fabulous V12 engine could deliver outstanding performance, its thirst for petrol was legendary, which caused problems in the USA, where Jaguar were fined for publishing misleading figures. This promoted the first big change for the model, which was the new HE or High Efficiency engine in 1981. This combined with the much longer final drive, gave the XJS much better fuel economy, which was bearable. The Jaguar XJS offers its owners a slice of motoring history, defying critics to become one of the world's most successful GT cars. From the introduction of the HE engine in 1982, the 3.6 AJ6 engine in 1984, which expanded to four litres in 1989, the cabriolet in 1985, the full convertible in 1988 and the face-lift model in 1993 to the final commemorative model in 1995,the XJS was continuously developed during its 20 year production life.
The Jaguar XJS 3.6 auto offered here is described by the vendor to be in very good condition in every aspect, and to drive well. This carefully maintained 3 owner XJS 3.6 auto sports coupe was first registered to Mr A J Dyer on 11th December 1989, having been supplied by Dutton Forshaw Maidstone. The purchase invoice on file shows it was specified in Bordeaux red with Saville grey hide with red piping and cost £2,9240. Mr Dyer kept the car for 23 years and sold it to its second owner in 2012. The current and only 3rd owner bought the car in 2014, and in his 6 years of careful ownership has covered just 3,500 miles and invested circa £4,500 in maintenance with all invoices in the extensive file. This has included new front subframe, front callipers and pads, new steering radius arms, new rear brake discs, pads and renewed callipers, and much ongoing maintenance. The car is running well and has just had a fresh MoT and comes with full service history, all handbooks, papers, many MoTs and a substantial file of invoices.
