Both miniatures are said to date from 1854. Provenance: Kinsham Court, Presteigne, Powys.
John Arkwright first moved to Hampton Court, Herefordshire in 1814, though he didn't formally inherit the Hampton Estate until his father's death in 1843
In 1830, John married his wife Sarah, the daughter of Sir Hungerford Hoskyns Bt. of Harewood Park, Herefordshire. In the following years they were to have 12 children.
Sarah Arkwright was twenty-three years younger than John, which wrote the wife of the vicar of Bodenham, some thought 'unfortunate ..persons who know her say her manners are artificial and that she has a very high spirit...but love is blind they say & Miss H is young and pretty looking '
