1937 (Feb.) Junkers JU 86 delivery flight from Dessau, Germany to Melbourne via Singapore, envelope with printed view of the Junkers plane "Buckeberg", apparently sent under cover from Batavia to Germany and hand carried on the flight which left Dessau on Feb. 17th, addressed to a "Chief Pilot bound for Singapore, to be posted in Melbourne" but posted instead at Singapore (Feb. 24) franked $1, forwarded to Batavia (Feb. 26). With newspaper cutting (in Dutch, with translation) about the "Buckeberg" flight and copy page from the Lufthansa archive giving the itinerary of the 22,000km flight by Capt. Kommol, which also tested the reliability of crude oil diesel engines; and a press photo of the aeroplane at Dessau prior to the flight, renamed "Lawrence Hargrave" after a pioneer Australian aviator. A remarkable souvenir cover of the flight and the only item seen. Photo on Page 202.
