This aquatint of the church in the oldest mission station in South Africa is from the book 'Journal of a Visit to South Africa in 1815/1816' by Reverend Charles Ignatius Latrobe (1758-1836). Latrobe, a Moravian missionary, wrote this journal which has been described as an important volume of travels to the Cape with illustrations second only to that of Burchell.
