George Horace Davis (1881-1963), The original artwork used in 'Illusterated London News,' nine vignettes showing various German tanks, anti-aircraft guns, mines, amphibious assault troops, rocket projectiles and concrete gun positions of the German Third Reich, signed and dated 1945, monochrome watercolour wash and gouache on paper, 60x49cm, recently mounted, framed and acrylic glazed. George Davis was one of the finest exponents of the "cutaway" graphic illustrations of aircraft, ships, tanks and engineering of the 20th century. Davis was a staff artist for the "Graphic" and the "Sphere" & Chief Staff Artist of "The Illustrated London News.
