AIR CRASH MAIL - GREAT BRITAIN TO SOUTH AFRICA/BELGIUM/SWITZERLAND/CANADA/USA: 1939-50 collection on leaves inc. 1939 water damaged env. to Natal carried on Imperial Airways flying boat 'Challenger' which crashed into the Mozambique Channel with purple boxed "FLYING BOAT CORRESPONDENCE DAMAGED BY SEAWATER/VLIEGBOOT KORRESPONDENSE DEUR SEEWATER BESKADIG" CACHET; 1939 pair envs. (one with address missing) carried by British Airways which crashed while landing at Saint Sauveur with red "Endomgee lors de l'accident/survenu a l'avion postal a Luxeuil." cachets, and env. carried on same plane but with bilingual notice instead of cachet; 1950 envs. to Belgium carried by Helicopter which crashed into the River Meuse with "COURRIER HELIOCPTERS/ACCIDENTE" cachets (the only mail carrying helicopter to crash so far recorded!); also 2 other salvaged envs. (1943/45) & a re-photographed 1945 V-Mail marked "DAMAGED".
