CARLO NAYA [1816-1882]- Seven albumen prints of Venice,:- comprising #2 The Basilica [35 x 26cm], #13 Palace Ca Doro on The Grand Canal [35 x 27cm], #26 The Doge's Palace and San Giorgio [35.5 x 27cm], #54a interior facade of The Doge's Palace with Giant's Staircase [35.5 x 27cm], #130 Antica Biblioteca [24.5 x 18.5cm], #231 The Giant's Staircase and Facade of The Senators Court, Doge's Palace, and Palazzo Grimani [18.5 x 24cm]. Carlo Naya was one of a small School of Italian Photographers who followed in the footsteps of Carlo Ponti [1820-1893] in creating scenic views of Venice. After studying law, Naya opened a studio in Venice from which he operated through the 1860s and 70s, taking large scale works from which he made albumen prints. Naya's catalogue numbers and brief architectural notes are inscribed in English, French and German on the reverse of the mounting boards. The prints are in excellent condition, the mounting boards are aged.
