A VERY FINE IRISH MAHOGANY TWO DOOR GLAZED BOOKCASE BY STRAHAN, OF DUBLIN, a fantastic piece of Irish furniture history; the pediment with carved detail to the centre point and a lovely upturned scroll tip on either side with a scalloped shaped base, beneath are a pair of single pane glazed cabinet doors; which show the shelved interior within, the corners decorated with a carved foliate & floral design, beneath the glazed case is a two door cabinet. All raised on a platform base. Condition: In excellent condition; commensurate with age and use. Stamp of maker on the piece. Dimensions: 145 x 265 x 48cm (W x H x D). MORE ABOUT THE MAKER: The firm of Robert Strahan & Co was founded in 1776, and operated from various premises in the capital right up until 1969. They displayed their work at Dublin’s Great Industrial Exhibition in 1853. Patronised by the Office of Public Works, the firm design and manufactured high quality furniture. They designed furniture for some of the great Irish country houses over the last 200 years including Doneraile Court, Co. Cork & Lisnavagh, Co. Carlow.
