Two John Rose (Coalport) plates, circa 1805-10, the first, probably independently decorated with a well-painted central scene of four birds in a grassy landscape, in a painting style similar to that found on the 'Animal Service', with a cobalt and gilt border, unmarked, 23.5cm diameter; the second, with matching border, painted with a basket of flowers, unmarked, 23.5cm diameter (2) (a.f) Notes: The 'Animal Service' was based on engravings taken from Bewick's 'A General History of Quadrupeds, 1790'. Although this plate features birds and is obviously, therefore, not from the same source, other pieces from the Animal Service feature the same border and style of central painting.
