A FRENCH GILT BRASS GRANDE-SONNERIE STRIKING AND REPEATING CARRIAGE CLOCKLEFRAND, PARIS, LATE 19th CENTURYThe eight-day two train movement ting-tang striking the quarters on a graduated pair of gongs and sounding the hour every quarter hour on the larger of the two, with silvered platform lever escapement regulated by sprung split bimetallic balance, the inside of the frontplate stamp LEFRAND, A PARIS over 17, V and backplate stamped with shield L.F., PARIS trademark and serial number 3717 to lower left corner, with rectangular white enamel Roman numeral dial and blued steel moon hands, the bevel-glazed corniche case with hinged carrying handle over oval top glass and push-repeat button to front edge, cavetto cornice and caddy moulded uprights to angles, the rear with pin-hinged door, on cavetto moulded skirt base with rounded angles and G'de Sonnerie/Silence/Quart's strike selection lever to underside.15cm (6ins) high, 9cm (3.5ins) wide, 8cm (3.25ins) deep.
