R.M.S. TITANIC: Original matte finish silver gelatine photograph of Titanic Chief Wireless Operator John George ‘Jack Phillips’ in Marconi uniform with photographer’s mount circa 1911. The mount bears the photographer's imprint of Jennie Stedman, Melrose Studio, Farncombe [Godalming, Surrey, England]. Jennie Stedman and her brother George were childhood friends of Jack Phillips and lived at “Cleveland Place”, Farncombe Street, close to the Phillips family. In addition to Jennie’s photography studio, her father ran his construction company ‘AW Stedman & Son’ from the house and had a builder’s yard at the rear of the building. Jennie was well known locally for family and pet portraits, and later took many photographs for servicemen leaving for the Front in WWI.
