A 19th century Japanese porcelain bowl: the interior decorated with four cranes in flight above four figures, trees and peony; the upper interior and exterior borders decorated with bands of half-flowerheads and sprigs. The exterior body with a continuous border of dancing figures in underglaze blue and iron-oxide red, and butterflies in flight, and a lower band of stylised serpent-like beasts; double foot rims surrounding two central blue circles.
