ENGLISH HOGSCRAPER BOTTLE/ CANDLESTICK. 6.75ins tall. Dark green, almost black glass bottle formed as a hollow bodied hogscraper candlestick. The c. 1710 original devices were manufactured of tempered sheet iron, wrought in several pieces and joined together by metal joinery and silver soldering. The name is derived from the candlesticks resemblance to an antique device used to scrape bristles from hog hide after slaughter.
Delightful & skillful tooled lip with various body embellishments down the column. Sharp base pontil. Unrecorded, possibly unique example, in excellent A1 condition. (10/10)
