Born at Presteigne, the sitter was educated at Jesus College, Oxford.He graduated 1668. MA 1672. and was a Fellow 1671-84..Entering Holy Orders he was for many years Master of the Free School at Abergavenny.In 1678 he became Rector of St Stephens, Coleman Street, Londonand in 1683 lecturer at S. Olave, Southwark. He was awarded the degree of DD in 1691 and in 1697 was appointed Prebendary of Westminster. He died in 1715 and was buried at Westminster Abbey.
