A delightful original oil on canvas painting by Owen Walsh (1933-2002). This work features a bright colourful iris plant crawling its way up a shed wall, rendered in thick brushstrokes. Walsh is a renowned IRish artist who sells excellently at auction, with a sale of €3000 at Whyte's.

Walsh studied at NCAD where he received major awards for painting and composition. In 1954 he won the first Royal Hibernian Academy Scholarship in Art - the MacAuley Fellowship - and went to Spain in 1955, working and studying in Madrid, Toledo and Barcelona. After a sojourn in France from 1967 to 1970, he returned to Ireland where he continued to work until his death in Dublin in 2002.
