PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY, Burma, Pacific and the Far East Campaigns. Second World War - including both British and United States troops. Approximately 117 black and white photographs, circa 1941-45 and two re-issues from 1979, issued by Air Ministry, Indian Official (MOI), Keystone, and various other press agencies, with printed captions verso, largest approximately 24cm x 19cm Subject matter includes: • R.A.F airstrip on the Arakan Front • Chinese patrol passing dead Japanese soldiers • Members of Wingate's Guerrillas • Mortar crew in action • Holy Communion in the Burma Jungle • Battalion of the Manchester Regiment in the Jungle, with ferns and foliage attached to their topees • Field Marshall Wavell receiving gifts from the Naga hillmen following offering congratulations on helping to fight the Japanese • R.A.F plane returning from an attack on railway sidings (burning target in the background) • Chinese tank crews (in American tanks) pushing into Burma • American Troops in New Guinea and the Philippines • Japanese prisoners in Bataan (prior to its fall, 1942) • The remains of over 100 Americans captured at Bataan and burned alive by the Japanese • Okinawa Island and others (approximately 117)
