A MID-19TH CENTURY DARNING SAMPLER, European, unusual with a mix of darning, woolwork, beadwork, with floral border, 8 large darns, and a central woolwork panel featuring either Swiss, German or Austrian men wearing lederhosen, feathers in their caps, white beadwork on their shirts, a large snow-capped mountain in the background, and a woolwork band near to the bottom embroidered in beadwork, “Par Clemence Cools, 1861”, the inlaid wood frame encased in glass, not touching the sampler, approx. 74.5 cm by 63.5 cm, including the frame
A very few areas of wear to the wooolwork, note on the date band, one shirt, and a small hole in the floral border top left.
