GREECE - MAIL FROM A MARINE IN PIRAEUS; Jan. 1862 env. (flap fault) to London endorsed 'From Pte Henry Smith Royal Marines/HMS Mars Piraeus' with Commanding Officers signature below and 1d Red tied by a Malta duplex en route. Note: H.M.S Mars was stationed in Greece from 15.12.1861 to 5.2.1862 where she sailed to Beirut and all mail was sent through Malta. Very attractive example from this unusual origin (with a coloured unused illustrated notepaper "GUARDIANS OF ENGLAND'S HONOUR/MARINE") Ex Glassco and rather scarce.
