£700
1983 Great British Coin Collection uncirculated set with error 'NEW PENCE' 2p coin. This sought-after set comes in its card sleeve, which is complete with eight coins, including the rare mule Two Pence. The reverse of Two Pence coins dated between 1971 and 1982 feature the words 'NEW PENCE' above the Prince of Wales's feathers, in reference to the introduction of a new, decimalised currency in 1971. The design was changed for 1983 to read 'TWO PENCE', but rare mule coins, often found in uncirculated collectors sets, are evidence of a rare modern mint error where the older die has been utilised. This example can be seen in a set issued in collaboration between the Royal Mint and Martini & Rossi, the Italian beverage company.
