Attributed to Jean-Francois De Wouters (18th century) - moonlight river landscape with figures beside fishing boats, buildings nearby with further buildings in the distance, bears a signature and date 1779, also inscribed on a plaque attached to the frame, together with a further extensive European inscription verso, oil on panel, 15.5" x 23.5"; contained within a later wood and gilt frame

More Information

We are unable to tell where the vendors purchased the work and in what year but would confirm there is an area of thinly applied glazed restoration in the sky to the right of the sail on the large boat in the left of the composition, this is approximately 2.5-3" in area, there are also small flecks of re-touching in the sky in various places (several) with some further re-touching along the outer edge where the old frame has rubbed against the panel, however this is minimal.
The picture is contained within a 1980s or 90s reproduction wooden, veneered and partially gilded frame.
