Star Lot: An original Lovey large Ludwig Schell (German b.1883-1912) oil on canvas painting. Features Schell's typical Bavarian lakeside landscape. Signed L. Schell bottom left and housed in a large molded gilt frame with Schell name plaque to top, most likely from a different painting. MM 100cm x 78cm including frame.
Ludwig Schell was born in October 1833 on Lock Mountain in Bavaria to famed horticulturist Carl Ludwig Schell and was the father of Louis Schell who also gained great acclaim as a landscape artist. He spent most of his adult life in Munich Germany where he gained fame as one of the great landscape painters of his time. He was an honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
