Theo J. Gracey was a landscape painter and illustrator born in Belfast and educated in the Belfast School of Art in 1915. His first of many commissions was given to Gracey by Thomas McGowan to create an Old Belfast Collection at the Belfast Museum and Art Gallery. Theo first exhibited his works at the Belfast Art Society and then from 1924-1951 he showed a total of seventy works at the Royal Hibernian Academy. He later became an academician at the Royal Ulster Academy. Gracey’s preferred approach was watercolour and his most popular subject was scenes from Antrim and Donegal.
