AN IMPORTANT AND RARE PAIR OF GEORGE I CAST SILVER DOUBLE LIPPED SAUCE BOATS BY PIERRE PLATEL DATED 1717 of shallow pronounced shouldered rectangular form with double lipped pouring spouts, wavey-edge double reed-edged borders and inward curved flattened double scroll handles, raised on ribbed oval bases. Bearing engraved gryphon-head winged Armorials to the sides - London 1717 by Piere Platel numbered 1 and 2 and scratch engraved weight to each 15.14 - 906gms the pair London 1717 by Pierre Platel Huguenot, Pierre Platel (1659–1739) apprenticed Paul de Lamerie in August 1703, de Lamerie opened his own workshop in 1713 and was appointed goldsmith to George I in 1716.
