A gown with paniers, 18th century altered for later fancy dress, elbow-length sleeves, a fine silk gauze with metallic thread and embroidered flowers, the bodice lined with cream silk; together with a silk taffeta C 1860’s gown with bell sleeves, additional waist apron and decorative bow, a soft grey fabric printed with flowers, trained, side front fastening, the additional sections in a different, plain silk with banding to match on the bodice front (2)

More Information

The first gown has a good deal of wear to the shoulders, bodice and hem, many visibly darned, together with under-arm staining. The second gown has issues and has been conserved in places with net.
