A RARE FATIMID BRONZE INCENSE BURNER, EGYPT, 10TH-12TH CENTURY

This exceptional bronze incense burner originates from the Fatimid period in Egypt, dating from the 10th to the 12th century. It features intricate openwork on the lid and body, with a long handle inscribed with Kufic script. The incense burner is elevated by four finely cast animal figures, with a distinctive bird-shaped finial on the dome-shaped lid.

The lid opens to reveal the perforated interior, designed to hold incense. Such incense burners were used in religious, ceremonial, or elite domestic settings, adding aromatic fragrance to spaces.
