HENRY FAWCETT (BLIND M.P./P.M.G. FAMOUS FOR PARCELS POST, ETC.) - CORRESPONDENCE TO SIR J.C. CAMPBELL; Jan. 1881 - July 1884 series of five autograph letters (probably all written in the hand of Fawcett's wife and amanuensis, Millicent, nee Garrett) and all addressed to the American musician and campaigner for the education of the blind) [later Sir] Francis J. Campbell (1832-1914) who had been, like Fawcett, blinded in an accident at a young age. The letters all relate to Campbell's "Royal Normal College and Academy for the Blind" near Crystal Palace. Two are written on crested Post Office notepaper, two on that of the House of Commons, and the first from his home address in Cambridge. A rare archive relating to this extraordinary M.P. and campaigner for improvements in the British Post Office both before he became P.M.G. and while he was in office at the P.O.; all written while he was P.M.G. (from May 1880 to Nov. 1884). Cross Reference: AUTOGRAPHS, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, PARCEL POST LABELS
