WW1 Royal Navy Siege Gun Group recipient's French 1914-1918 Croix de Guerre with star, BWM, Victory Medal, WW2 Defence Medal and KGVI Special Constabulary Long Service Medal to L.Z.4610 V.G.A. Seagar A.B. R.N.V.R. (Defence un-named as issued, Victor G. Seagar on Constabulary) very fine to extremely fine, half court mounted for display.
Victor George Alma Seager's Croix de Guerre was announced in the London Gazette dated 6th April 1918. With 3 original named award/mention cards with:
a. GOC XVth Corps "A report of your good and valuable service & devotion to duty, particularly during the Operations of the XVth Corps (July to August 1917), has been forwarded to me & I send you herewith my heartiest congratulations."
b. GOC 36th Army Corps 29/4/17 "Carnac Battery of the British Artillery. Carnac Battery of the Royal Navy Siege Guns, under the command of Lt Vaisseau Adams has been frequently subjected to the extremely violent fire of the enemy's large calibre guns, and has always shown proof of a calm and cool example. On the day of the 26th April 1917, it is particularly distinguished in continuing action under a bombardment of explosive and gas shells, in spite of losses in officers and men, and executed a fire of remarkable precision upon an enemy battery."
c. GOC 36th Army Corps 9/2/18 "Order No 104 Colonel Muller, gives to the order of 1 A.L.36 - Seager, Victor, Seaman L.Z.4610 of the British Naval Artillery in the sector of Nieuport: Making part, since March 1916, of a battery of Guns of the British Naval Artillery, has contributed by his readiness and calmness under fire to add to the efficiency of his gun."
With range of original photos, some in uniform with cap tallys showing R.N. Siege Guns, 1 wearing C de G, copied service papers etc, he enlisted 16/12/15, drafted from Sea Service for Land Operations 28/3/16, suffered slight gas poisoning 17/3/18, discharged 5/2/19. The Carnac Battery was a RN battery of 2 x 9.2 inch guns located at Oostduinkerke near Nieuport on the Belgian coast. Later lived at Skinners Arms, Manningtree, Essex.
