A cast iron oval shed plate 51L Thornaby (1958-1973)
51L- Thornaby, was built to be converted for diesel use and replaced Newport and Middlesbrough and is still in use. The 1959 steam allocation included 30 'Q6' 0-8-0 and 27 WD class 2-8-0s. Steam finished at Thornaby in 1964.
