Noah Payne was born on the 24th of August 1870 in Stoke Mandeville. He was a Labourer in civilian life, before joining the Royal Navy on his 18th birthday.



Payne earned the East and West Africa 1887-1900 Medal on H.M.S. Boadicea; he was discharged to the Fleet Reserve in 1910 but recalled in 1914. He was stationed at HMS Dolphin, and a newspaper article in the Bucks Herald on the 20th of August 1943, reporting the death of his son, notes Noah saw service on Submarines during WW1.





Mentioned in Despatches while on HMS Arrogant for 'Dover Patrol's between 1st July-31st December 1916, the award was announced in the London Gazette on the 23rd of May 1917.



He was awarded the Long Service Good Conduct Medal while also serving on Arrogant.



Pensioned in 1919, Noah died in 1958.
