A good late 1890’s wood fan, the cream silk satin leaf panted with birds returning to a nest in the eaves, one with food to proffer to the young, three of whom are lined up at the entrance in anticipation, the verso is plain cream glazed cotton, the loop fitted with a cream tassel and plaited closing ring, guard approx. 35.5 cm; together with a fan of the same period, the wood monture shaped and lightly gilded, the cream gauze leaf with a light coffee tint, painted with lush blue flowers with yellow stamens, accompanied by brown foliage, guard approx. 35cm (2)
The second fan has a few small holes in the gauze, but is otherwise strong
