Victorian Volunteer Officer 1869-78 pattern shako. A good scarce example of dark blue Melton cloth body and crown, with patent leather peak. Band of silver lace to top of the crown, another around the base; to the front a fine die-stamped silvered plate comprising crowned laurel sprays surrounding Garter with central Royal Crest. Two lines of silver cord around the crown. Complete with leather backed nickel chin chain supported by silvered rose pattern bosses and at the rear by a silver lion's mask. Lined with crimson silk also retaining crimson silk topped brown leather sweatband. Service wear. GC
