A CRIMEA PERIOD 1822 PATTERN LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD AND SCABBARD. With a 90 cm curved, sharpened pipe backed blade wit spear point. Attractively engraved to both sides with VR monogram beneath a crown and above oak leaves. Marked to the ricasso for 'Prosser to the Royal Family 9 Charring Cross London. With three bar hilt, forward facing quillon, wire bound shagreen grip and rounded pommel. In a steel scabbard with twin ring hangers. 115cm overall.
It is tempting to think of this sword in use as it is of the type often carried by officers in the Charge of the Light Brigade.
