VERY RARE BOXED "HOLLAND" PRESTAMP MARK - ONE OF ONLY THREE KNOWN (FOR DUTCH MAIL TO THE CAPE VIA G.B.); Feb. 1831 E to COGH ex Rotterdam charged '4'(d) on arrival and sent via London with a mainly fine and extremely rare London Foreign Branch framed "HOLLAND" mark (Jay cat. L1084) on the front, of which only two other examples has been recorded (apart from an 1838 courtesy strike in the P.O. records) and a "Na Posttyd" (too late) mark also on front. Rear with London Foreign Branch d.s. and Ship Letter d.s. It seems that this unusual mark was kept for the rare letters mailed partly prepaid from Holland to the Cape that passed through the London P.O.
